The Tegelberg is a mountain massif in the Ammergauer Alpen Nature Park at the edge of the Königswinkel region. Its highest point is the Branderschrofen at 1,881 metres. The valley station of the Tegelbergbahn cable car is located in Schwangau (Tegelbergstrasse 33); the upper station sits at around 1,720 metres, with the aerial tramway covering a vertical difference of roughly 892 metres.
From the upper station, the panoramic "Königsrunde" trail offers views of the royal castles, the Allgäu mountains and the pre-alpine lakes. In summer the area is popular for hikes through the Ammergebirge, three via ferrata routes of different difficulty, a summer toboggan run at the valley station, a playground and a beer garden. The Tegelberg is also a well-known centre for hang gliding and paragliding, with tandem flights offering aerial views of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau.
When snow conditions allow, the area around the valley station turns into a winter sports zone. From your Beim Dokterer holiday apartment in Halblech-Buching, the Tegelberg is one of the closest Allgäu excursions – ideal for an active day in the Ammergauer Alpen Nature Park before returning to your Halblech holiday apartment.
