The Romantic Road is Germany's oldest and best-known holiday route. It runs for around 460 kilometres from Würzburg in Franconia to Füssen in the Allgäu and links 29 towns. Halblech lies on the southern section just before the route's terminus in Füssen – it would be hard to find a better base for exploring the route.
The southern stretch strings together cultural-historical highlights and natural landscapes: Hohenfurch, Schongau, Peiting, Rottenbuch, Wildsteig, Steingaden with the UNESCO World Heritage Wieskirche, Halblech, Schwangau with the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, and finally Füssen with its historic old town. The route has existed in this form since 1950 and is designed for car, coach and cycle travellers alike.
Choosing a holiday apartment in Halblech-Buching puts the royal castles, the Wieskirche and Füssen virtually on the doorstep – and lets you explore stages heading north on day trips. Beim Dokterer is therefore a practical base for an Allgäu holiday focused on the Romantic Road.
