The municipality of Halblech in the Ostallgäu district consists of three parts – Halblech, Buching and Trauchgau – and sits on the edge of the Ammergebirge. The Ammergebirge nature reserve, at around 29,000 hectares, is the largest in Bavaria; the Ammergauer Alpen Nature Park covers 227.38 km² and was officially designated in 2017. It also has the greatest altitude range of any German nature park, from around 800 to 2,185 metres.
Around your Beim Dokterer holiday apartment in Halblech-Buching, some 200 kilometres of walking paths fan out – from gentle valley strolls to alpine tours. Halblech is a certified "Premiumwanderort" and part of the award-winning Allgäuer Wandertrilogie trail system. A scenic landmark is the wild Halblech river; the geological viewpoint "Flysch am Röthenbach" is one of Bavaria's notable geosites, and the region also hosts the first Allgäu bird observation station.
In winter, the Buchenberg chairlift in Buching opens up a family-friendly ski area at around 1,140 metres, with a longest run of approximately 2 kilometres, an illuminated 2.5 km toboggan run and six groomed cross-country trails for both classic and skating styles. This combination of royal castles, the Ammergau Alps Nature Park and quiet village life makes a holiday apartment in Halblech-Buching an ideal base for your Allgäu holiday.
